What are we aiming to do?
To explore and practice movement and dance as a
method for raising self and spiritual awareness and to
foster the Bangkok ecstatic, meditative dance
community.
What is Freedom Dance?
An opportunity to explore your own creativity,
expression, movement and dance. This dance is about
free movement, there are no steps to learn and there’
s no right or wrong way to do it. We create a safe,
judgement free place, where you can liberate your
body to access its own language and wisdom.
What can you expect from Freedom
Dance?
A friendly welcome whoever you are and where
ever you’re from.
Warm-up music you’re invited to use to become
more aware of your body, stretch, let go of the busy-
ness outside and fully arrive in the space.
A leader who creates a supportive, encouraging
atmosphere and guides you on a journey through a
range of different music, giving you suggestions to
explore.
The opportunity both to focus inwards on the dance
of your soul and to experience giving and receiving
from others in the group.
Who can participate?
All are welcome regardless of their ability, fitness level
or previous experience. There are no spectators!
Those who are nervous will be encouraged to
participate through support and example, it may
take a few sessions to feel comfortable.
What are the benefits?
free the body, unwind, release stress and re-charge
your natural energy.
awaken and connect to the physical and emotional
intelligence of the dancer inside.
explore your creativity and break free from self
imposed limits and restricting patterns
discover the spirit of movement meditation as a force
for transformation, wellness, personal growth and
healing.
Requests
Wear loose fitting clothes, no shoes. Leave jewellery
at home.
Switch off your mobile phone so we are free from
interruptions.
Each participant is responsible for his/her own
journey. Be aware of the needs of your body and
take care of your safety.
Expressions of emotion through movement, sound
tears, laughter etc are encouraged. Violent actions
against yourself, the room or others are not!
It does not matter how you look but it is important
to keep your eyes open so you don’t bump into others.
Money
We are not running Freedom Dance for profit but
charge to cover our costs and make the group
sustainable.
Background?
Because of her love of dance, Debbie Reeds started
organising the group in Bangkok following a visit from
5 Rhythms teacher Tim Broughton in May 2007.
She has now handed over to Kamonwan Khamching
(Nok).
We do not have any practising, qualified 5 Rhythms
teachers based in Bangkok. As part of her Caravan
Theatre programme, Kathy France organises Lucie
Nerot to visit to further her Dancing Across Borders
project and Wongsanit Ashram has brought Deborah
Jay-Lewin over as part of their links with the Findhorn
spiritual community in Scotland.
We would be interested to hear of any ecstatic
meditation dance teacher who is coming this way and
will happily circulate details to group members.

Frequently asked questions
Who comes to Freedom Dance? People of all ages, backgrounds and nationalities, Bangkok
residents and those passing through. We use English but you don’t need a high level of English
comprehension to take part.
But I’m shy! You’re not alone, most people feel shy when beginning something new and overcoming
those fears can have tremendous benefit for you. At Freedom Dance you won’t be put on the spot and
there is no one watching and evaluating you. You can participate as best you can and take your time
to feel comfortable.
I have never danced before! Great, this’ll be a new adventure for you! Trust that, when you free it
to move, your body will know the way.
Am I too old? If you can move, you can dance. You can go at your own pace and even sit down and
still participate in the dance.
I need alcohol or drugs to dance! Often alcohol or drugs give us the feeling we are free enough to
let go and dance, we can also give ourselves that permission at any time.
